Building a House of God

Our Mission Statement

How to Become a Founder

The Building Committee and Our Goals

Current Status and Donors

We are The Greek Orthodox Mission of Northern Arizona, (GOMONA) located in Flagstaff, Arizona. Our Orthodox Christian mission first came together in 1985. For over 20 years we have been celebrating Christ's love and reaching out to help others, with no permanent home of our own.

There is no Orthodox Church within 150 miles of Flagstaff, other than our Mission. We are currently sharing / renting one of the Catholic Church buildings in town (Our Lady of Guadalupe). Recently, His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco (Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco), has asked us to “channel the enthusiasm of the community into finding a permanent home for your church.” Thus we are now pursuing the establishment of the first Orthodox Church in Northern Arizona.

After countless hours of prayer and meetings we have set a goal of 1 million dollars. This will be achieved by securing gifts from organizations and individuals who understand  the importance of providing an Orthodox Church facility that is essential to the spiritual growth of current and future parishioners. The progress bar to the right shows our advancement, even in these early stages.

The building(s) will be built, or purchased and remodeled, and will be within 10 miles of Flagstaff. The building(s) will eventually consist of at least 5,000 square feet of space with a sanctuary large enough to hold 250 people as well as one or more classroom(s) for children's Sunday School, continued adult Orthodoxy, and Bible study classes. The average cost to construct or remodel a building in Flagstaff is $200.00 per square foot, and the approximate cost of commercial land with utilities is $220,000 per acre.

A Founders plaque will be created to ensure that the families who share our passion for creating the only Orthodox Church in Northern Arizona are never forgotten. This plaque will be engraved with all the names of donors contributing $10,000 or more. We pray for the Church Founders at every Liturgy, so we can remember those who made sacrifices for this cause.

Financial donations of any amount are greatly appreciated, as are gifts of stock or real estate. If you cannot donate monetarily, please pray for God's guidance for the future of the Greek Orthodox Mission of Northern Arizona.
